Bear River girls golf team is having the best season yet. The girls started off the season with a win against Colfax, our biggest rivals. That win was sweet, since it had been four years since the last time they beat Colfax.
“But it felt like a full circle moment,” said this year’s captain, senior Margaret Ralston. “Every single year we’ve come so close to beating them, like within a couple shots, and we just could never. And the whole team has been working so hard.”
This victory did not just happen overnight. The Bruins have been putting in extra time in practices, sharpening their swings, and tireless training has helped them reach the level of play they are showing this season. Not only do practices have an impact on the team, but also the relationships between the girls that make the team who they are.
Senior Chloe Huiskens knows as well as anybody that a tight bond is essential.
“ I would say for me personally one of the ways I support the girls is just making sure that I get to know them on a personal level and understanding where their coming from and how they can learn their best,” Huiskens said. “I just like to give tips and pointers on how they can improve themselves and I like to show how I can help and just be a better influence on them.”
That supportive attitude has been a big part of the girls success so far this season. Supporting each other on and off the green has made the team closer and more motivated than ever.
“My favorite part is just being able to play with all the other girls, both on my team and the other teams,” Ralston said. “We just had a really good time. We have great conversations. We’ve all become friends. It’s just lots of positive energy when we play.”
