As one of the spring sports, boys golf is starting up again. The team is ready for the 2022 season and has some goals, tips and more.

Coach Gayne Nakano says the most important part about the team is, “realizing you have a responsibility to the team to try your best on every shot.”

Nakano has been the head coach for boys golf for 26 years .

So far the team has started off strong and has won every match they’ve played. Players are confident they can keep their streak going and have a good season. Being confident in the team plays a very big role in their success.

“I’m pretty confident because we’re good,” says junior Sammy Sypnicki

Senior Derek Warner says,”I’m pretty confident because we have a lot of kids on our team to choose from to play in matches.” he says. “We’ve won all of our matches so far”

Every player has their own goals unique to themselves. The players share their goals they have.

Sypnicki says his goal is “to shoot under 40”

Warner says,”one of the goals is to win every match and play as best as I can”

Nakano also shares his goals for his team as a whole,”My goals for this year are to have every player improve as much as they can.”

They share some helpful tips for new players or people who are interested in playing.

Warner says,”Don’t get frustrated. It’s definitely super frustrating. Your going to want to quit nearly every day but you just have to suffer through it”

“Don’t focus on the mistakes. Just let things go.” Says Sypnicki.

And coach Nakano says,”If anyone wants to be on a golf team they should take a few lessons prior to coming out for the team.”

The team continues to put in the work and hope for the best. Wish the best luck to the team and hopefully they can keep their streak going.
