This is second in a series about new teachers at Bear River.
This year Bear River is exploding with new teachers. Physics and Chemistry teacher Peter Gammelgard hopes to bring more life to the Bear River campus.
Native to Nevada City, Mr. Gammelgard graduated from Nevada Union High School. He said he wanted to be an engineer, so he went to Gonzaga Washington, then later traveled to Montana and got his masters degree in civil engineering.
While getting his degree, Gammelgard had the opportunity to teach a few classes. While in the process of teaching, he discovered he had a growing passion for educating the youth of our country. The day he graduated from engineering school was the day he started classes to become a teacher.
“When Bear River had an opening in Physics, I saw it as an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up…” said Mr. Gammelgard. “Teaching is awesome because I learn more everyday and it gives me more time with my family.”
Excited about what the years to come, Mr. Gammelgard said he is happy with the “good community” that Bear River has welcomed him with.
Students have already taken to Mr. Gallelgard’s teaching style.
“I think he’s nice and a very good teacher,” said Molly Bristol, a junior.
