The Wellness Ccenter is a place where students can go to reset and get a break from class if they need. If you ask your teacher to go they will let you go and catch a break which is something we all need sometimes.
They have a healthy selection of food, and they have tea you can make, and water too.
The Wellness Center is not only used for a reset, there are other things the wellness center is used for. For example, you can meet with your counselor or with an on-site therapist.
You can do things like draw, paint, play with fidget toys, read magazines, do puzzles, do yoga, or anything else that might help them regulate.
While it is open to all students, it is only open half the day, but they always have a schedule posted on the window right beside the door.
The Wellness Center was inspired by the idea of giving students a place to go for any reason they might have. The person who controls the wellness center most of the time is Shannon Busse.
She is very welcoming and supportive as one should be.
“The Wellness Center helps with anxiety, building healthy relationships, there is a guest speaker that comes and helps with substance abuse issues and stuff like that,” said Busse.
The wellness center is located in room A131.
There are guidelines about the Wellness Center posted on the Bear River website, stating, “The Wellness Center is meant to be a place where students can rest and refocus, to get back to their classes more equipped to learn. It is not meant to be a place where students come to avoid school, hang out with friends or waste time.”
Studies have shown that it is very important for students and kids to have a restful mind while going to school, like getting enough sleep before going to school. Students who take a 10-minute break have a calmer mind and better grades than students who don’t.
A study by Cornell University highlighted how effective breaks can be.
“Research shows that taking purposeful breaks (anywhere from 5–60 minutes) from studying to refresh your brain and body increases your energy, productivity, and ability to focus.”
