Bear River recently spruced up its buildings with pictures of our athlete, by putting athletes on the McGrory gym doors and weight room windows.
The creation of these doors and windows wouldn’t have been possible without the help of health teacher and girls varsity basketball coach Jen Krill, and principal Chris Roberts.
Krill is a big part of the Bear River athletic department and continues to give her ideas alongside Roberts.
“A lot of schools have it, like Nevada Union,” Krill said. “They’ve had their same pics up for seven or eight years now. But we’ve always talked about it, so Mr. Roberts and I collaborated on it last year and waited for this year to do it.”
This simple touch to the doors and windows has caught the attention of many students. Junior Bear River student Shelland Salac liked what they were able to do.
“It shows great dedication from our school showing support and great positivity that goes throughout every single player and student at our school,” Salac said.
Junior Ryan Roberts is featured on a window playing soccer.
“It's really cool that we’re honoring our students and athletes that deserve to be on there,” Ryan Roberts said. “They worked hard for the posters on the door and it’s pretty cool that they did that.”
Krill is happy with the finished look.
“I think it looks pretty cool, it makes everything, especially having a new gym floor a little bit more athlete-centric, which it should be,” Krill said. “So that’s why we have a lot of the indoor athletes on the gym, and a lot of the outdoor athletes on the outside of the weight room so it kind of makes it look like the athletic facilities.”
So far, the common impression this project gives off is how cool and honorable our athletes are.
Bear River senior Luke Jeffers is a three-sport athlete in football, volleyball and basketball, and is one of the athletes printed on the gym doors.
“It feels awesome and I feel honored to be up there,” Jeffers said.“I think it is a great way to showcase our athletics. Putting people on those doors shows what our school’s athletic programs entitle.”
As Bear River surrounds their place with their fellow athletes, more students continue to grow curious. A common question amongst Bear River students is, will there be more to come? To answer this, Krill says how they plan on keeping these updated.
“We plan on doing it every couple years so the athletes stay fresh to who is current to the school,” Krill explained. “There are seniors from now, but there are no graduates from last year. So we’ll probably update it every year or two.”
