What’s made Bear River’s Izaak Sharp a standout racer is the family he has off the track and the rivalries he has on it.
Though this is only his fourth year racing, Sharp has always had a supportive family to push him.
“I always loved riding around quads,” Sharp said. “My parents wanted to get me into racing because I always said I wanted to race, so they found quarter midgets.”
Naturally, Sharp faced some challenges during his journey. When Sharp started, the support of his family was always there. However, his experience compared to the other racers wasn't.
“Since I’m the only racer in my family, it was really hard trying to keep up with the other kids that their whole family raced and they had the experience behind their backs,” Sharp said.
But as Sharp started to get the hang of racing, he started to fall in love with the racing environment.
“It’s pretty cool. It’s like one big family.” Sharp adds. “But at the same time, we’re all competitors. So on the track, it’s like we’re all really aggressive, but off the track, we’re all family.”
Racing is more than just a hobby for Sharp. He plans on continuing his racing journey after he graduates. Sharp even attracted fans at Bear River, such as sophomore Benjamin Griffis.
“He has some of the fastest cars,” Griffis said. “His micro-sprint, his tiny car, was probably the fastest car in that class in the world. He is a very good race car driver. I love that guy.”
Sharp’s little brother, Elias Sharp, a freshman at Bear River, loved being able to celebrate his brother’s success.
“When he won a race, my whole family was able to go to the middle of the track with him,” Elias Sharp said.
Not only is Izaak Sharp a good racer, but he’s also a good person.
“Izaak is the nicest person I’ve met,” junior Everett Harwood said. “He always chooses to see the good in people and look past the bad.”
Junior Gabriel Cortez said Sharp is the “nicest person and most polite person I have ever met.”
Sharp’s racing journey and polite demeanor has gained him many fans. As students continue to know and support Sharp, the more his merch is worn around the school grounds.
With his love for racing, Sharp suggests some advice to younger and newer racers.
“Attack every lap. Don’t settle where you are at,” Sharp said.
In the hopes of continuing his racing career, Sharp aims to move up in experience and to be bigger and better in the next races.
