Varsity Softball hopes to avoid a strikeout with the rest of this year’s season.
Bear River’s 2017 Varsity Softball team is putting in their best effort, but continue to come up short at almost every game they’ve played so far.
Head Softball Coach and Math Teacher Steve McCullough shared his outlook on how the season is going.
“This season started off a little rough but it has been getting better,” he said.
Senior Kailynne Van Winkle agreed with Mr. McCullough’s opinion.
“This season hasn’t been going very well this year,” she said. “We lost to Center, one of the easiest teams in our league.”
“We don’t really all come together to work as a team,” she continued. “I think with some practice the team will pull through.”
Mr. McCullough put the competition into perspective.
“Our biggest competitors are definitely Lincoln and Placer,” he said.
Junior Mallory Borrego elaborated on Mr. McCullough’s statement.
“Lincoln has some really good pitchers and Placer is always a tough team to face,” she said. “… But this season has gone a lot better than expected. We held Lincoln to a one-run game and we’ve been doing really well on offense.”
Junior Kaitlyn Maddux gave her honest thoughts on what’s going wrong with their team so far.
“We have a really tough time hitting and we need a lot of work with that,” she said. “Lincoln wasn’t really hitting that well either and they ended up beating us.”
Borrego is hopeful for the future of the team and believes that they have fighting chance to finish this season out strong.
“I think the competition will be pretty tough but a lot of good effort on our part should help out.”
