Editors note: The Wednesday play auditions have been moved to Friday, September 1.
The Bear River drama department is ready for their first act.
On August 28 and 29, students interested in auditioning for the November 9-18 play “Our Town” should meet Drama Teacher Sara Noah in the theater at 3:30 p.m. after school. The auditions will run for until 5:30 p.m. Students will be reading scenes from the script and callbacks, if necessary, will be on September 1. Mrs. Noah would like students to bring a pen or pencil and a list of conflicts that they may have during the rehearsal period.
Mrs. Noah explained the plot of the play and what is unique about it.
“The play won a Pulitzer Prize and concerns two families in a small New England Town at the turn of the 20th century,” Mrs. Noah said. “It focuses on the relationship between the young man of one family, George Gibbs, and the young lady in the other family, Emily Webb. The show was fairly revolutionary for its time, as there are minimal sets and props, and the story is narrated by the Stage Manager, who moves in and out of the action. It is a very sweet story that has stood the test of time.”
She also assuaged concerns of students who may be worried about reading too many lines.
“I hope we get a lot of students to come and try out,” said Mrs. Noah. “This is a great first play experience for folks who want to get a taste for being in a show but are concerned about learning a lot of lines. Of course, the lead characters have lots to say!”
