Bears River’s Kültcha Klüb wants students to see new horizons.

The new club was the idea of Andrea Fox, the new Performing Arts teacher and Choral Accompanist. The club’s purpose is to find new and fun traveling activities that most students can’t do with their families.

“Kültcha Klüb is an opportunity for students who have an interest in concerts, plays, museums, and being able to attend fun events,” she said. “One major reason why we began this club was to help students be able to travel and go to fun activities that their parents can’t pay for or travel to.”

Fox described how, for some Bear River students, travel opportunties are limited.

“I think that broadening their horizons and being able to start this Kültcha Klüb will give the students here an opportunity to do something they usually don’t do,” Fox said.

On September 1, the first meeting was held to brainstorm fun activities the students would like to do in the near future. All meetings will be held on Wednesdays in the choir room. The club’s advisers are Ms. Fox, David Ahrens, the Choir teacher, and Joyce Gouveia, the Dance teacher. The main purpose of Kültcha Klüb is to help students who can’t afford or drive to cultural events. The teachers aim to help these students.

“Students who join the Kültcha Klüb will benefit by working together to meet a goal for fundraising to cover trip expenses, learning to research destinations and plan our travel, and most importantly, they will benefit by experiencing the fine arts up close,” Mr. Ahrens said. “Seeing artwork in a museum is much more impactful than seeing it on the internet or in a book.”

Mr. Ahrens said that fine arts is a spectrum of culture and the club would explore it.

“Attending a live dance performance, concert, or play will give our students a direct and personal connection with the arts,” said Mr. Ahrens. “While this club is open to all students, it is expected that many of our members will be those studying the arts at Bear River. A group dedicated to ALL of the arts, not just a single discipline, will help our students to better identify with and gain appreciation for one another. I’m hoping that this helps to encourage students to support all arts performances and activities on campus as well.”
