Bear River’s Leadership officials were busily Pumping Up Bruins before the home game last Friday.
Every year, the Leadership class tries to get students excited for home football games with pre-event parties. Officials said there are usually about two Pump Up Parties during the year — they are extra special for students with “All Access” or for students who just want to get excited for the games.
“We started doing (Pump Up Parties) a couple years ago, just for big games to get everyone excited and go over some cheers,” said Matt MacDonald, Bear River’s activities director. “We do face paint and different things to get kids excited.”
McDonald explained why the annual event was moved from its previous set-up in the quad.
“We found out that freshman and sophomores wanted to watch the JV game, so we had to move the party to get more students in,” he said. “…It’s just something extra for students. It only happens twice in a year and a couple times for basketball.”
“You have to have fun, with headbands and face paint,” said Kayleigh Siebels, a senior Leadership official who helps organize the events. “I had to get the pizza and all the headbands. Not that much setting up goes into it, just some extra stuff.”
Students expressed their excitement for the first Pump Up Party of the year.
“I was so excited making the tunnel and the student section,” said Dylan Sinclair, a sophomore. “The party was fun and I love pizza.”
“It was exciting getting to see all the football players go through the tunnel,” said Amanda Potts, a senior.
