Breaking school records left and right, the Bear River Girls Golf team is driving their way through the season.
With only a one-stroke loss against the Placer Hillmen, the Lady Bruins hold a strong game going into the second half of the season. On September 26, the girls participated in the first of two PVL tournaments where they came in 2nd place to Placer High. Placer has been the Lady Bruin’s biggest rival, both last year and this season.
Serenity Edwards, a junior on the team, said her confidence was high.
“My favorite part of golf is improving our scores for us to beat Placer,” she said.
Edwards joined the Varsity girls team last year as a sophomore and has greatly added to the overall team morale. Other additions from last year include current sophomore, Madison Templeton. Playing as an alternate last year, Templeton has shown drastic improvement and now plays the number four position on a six-person latter.
“I’m feeling pretty confident in how we are doing this far,” said Templeton, the sophomore Varsity player. “We have Dominique (Peter), so we are doing pretty good.”
Dominique Peter is the only freshman on the golf team this year. Peter discussed her enthusiasm for being on the golf team.
“I feel honored, because I’m the the only freshman playing on the Varsity team,” she said. “I like that it’s not based on your own score, it’s based on everyones’ score.”
Golf coach and Math teacher, Gayne Nakano was positive about the season.
“We are doing great, everyone’s working hard,” he said. “We are playing the best golf that we have had at Bear River.”
