The Bear River Den, a new on-field student cheering section, has been a big hit with fans and players alike.
The idea was presented to Leadership by the football coaches at the beginning of the year so they decided to try it out. However, for the Bear River vs Sutter game on Sept. 29, the students weren’t able to cheer on the field and were moved back to their original spot in the stands. This made some of the students of Bear River upset.
“The Den should stay on the field because the players need the hype,” senior Caleb McGehee said. “It’s just simply better down on the field in order to support our players, which is what The Den is for.”
Not all students are disappointed in the switch.
“I like the idea of the student section in the end zone for the first and (homecoming) games, but I think it’s way better up in the stands,” senior Liam Marchi said. Marchi is the ASB class president and part of Leadership.
“I did like it when we had it in the stands so we could see everything better and we appeared to be seen bigger, but I’ve grown to like it in the end zone,” said senior class officer Audri Cha.
Football players are also upset that the students weren’t able to cheer on the field.
Varsity player Kaden Cavollt liked to have the fans close to the action.
“I think it’s good to get the fans as much involvement as possible and if that means putting the student section in the end zone, then so be it.”
Some of the football players would love it better if the students were on the field and cheering them. But from a fan perspective, the bleachers might be a better choice.
