Recently the Current decided to update their podcasts, bringing What’s Bruin in as the new podcast. It focuses on what happens inside the school and has student guests. So far, there are 5 episodes posted.
Senior Grace Douden started the What’s Bruin podcast and has released 5 episodes to The Current and Spotify.
“What’s Bruin is a student podcast that Kenny, Jamey, and I host. We bring in different students to be guests, and I kind of created it.”
Senior Kenny Baltz, a host, breaks down what What’s Bruin is.
“I would say What’s Bruin is for myself, Grace and Jamey to kind of connect with the school as much as we can, we love talking about things going on. We talk about anything going on at school and any students or staff we’ll talk with or about.”
The podcast is student run by Douden, Baltz, and Junior Jamey Slater. The podcast is a way for journalism students to get work done and to turn stories in for BR Current, but without the long process of writing the stories.
Slater, another host on the podcast, hopes to talk about topics that students care about.
“I just hope that with the podcast we can talk about topics that the other students care about and get everyone interested.”
Douden started the podcast to get out of writing stories and to instead talk about them.
“Just kind of not wanting to write stories and trying to find another way that would work better with my personality. So that was the inspiration behind it.”

Those who have helped with the podcast are Conner Beatte and Zach Krause. Both helped with the equipment set up and behind the scenes, and Madeline Mattson who designed the What’s Bruin stickers and logo.
With Douden graduating she hopes to give What’s Bruin off to other students interested.
“Hopefully hand it off to somebody like an underclassman. I know some people that have been interested in the podcast and talking about rebranding it, just rename it. I know that Lucy Rantz and Gabby Gerster have been talking to DeCicco about it.”
Baltz is hopeful to find the next podcasters for What’s Bruin
“We’re gonna try to find the next crowd of people to take over. I and Grace are leaving and Jamey is staying. It would be cool to get some kids hooked on the idea as much as we can just to see what to carry on the podcast.”
