In the fall season, Emma Coley is getting kills on the volleyball court, in the winter, getting steals to take to the basket, and swinging her tennis racket in the spring. She is a very passionate student athlete and is always on the move, but what sticks out the most is her positive and determined attitude.
Coley is described as hard working and an unproblematic team player. Teammate Sydney Mayfield admires her adaptability in terms of her play in volleyball.
“She is really good at what she does, and the coach put her in a lot of different spots and she adapted to them really well, which is something that I really love about her,” said Mayfield.
In the off season for basketball and volleyball, Coley is already preparing and improving for the next season, but for tennis she only gets her practice in the actual season.
“For tennis, I only practice during the actual season and just happen to be pretty good at it.” Coley said.
Out of the sports she’s involved in there is one that has truly stuck with her through all of it, and that’s basketball.
If you're a student observer and you see Coley, she is always at the top of her game, getting steals, and scoring points. You can really see how much she loves it.
“My favorite sport is definitely basketball, it always has been and I think that it always will be. I think that playing after high school is definitely a possibility for me,” said Coley.
Another one of Coley’s teammates, Sophia Dickie, loves her for her ability to let loose but also lock in when she needs to.
“She is very competitive and always likes to have a good time while playing sports, and making jokes,” said Dickie.
Being a multi-sport athlete is difficult, especially when each sport is physically and mentally demanding in their own different ways, but Coley advises people to enjoy it, because the courts are the biggest places for your growth as an athlete and a student.
Sports are something that brings you closer to people, and Coley says that it is truly a gift to be able to build those relationships with people. Sports have been a huge part of her life and she wouldn’t want it any other way.
“Getting to know all my teammates and creating life long friendships is such a reward you get, that you wouldn’t get if you didn’t play.” Coley said.
Coley is a gritty, and hardworking teammate and student. Her love for athletics will carry on after high school and she will never forget the people she’s met and the memories made.
“I think I wouldn’t be the person I am today without sports,” Coley said.
