Have you ever been interested in lacrosse?
Lacrosse is the oldest sport originated in North America. It came to be in the 12th century and was created by indigenous communities who called the medicine game. But now in the year 2026 it’s just a fun sport for kids to get involved in.
There are some who think that we should have a girls lacrosse team here at Bear River because the Bruins can get people involved to try out this sport. We already have a boys team, so why not a girls team?
It would be a good experience for all the kids who joined and all the parents who helped out making their season the best one yet. That’s why I think we should have a girls lacrosse team. And speaking of a girls lacrosse team, there is one person who is going to make this possible: Eddie Kodet .
“At this time the team is still what I would call a “seeking”stage,” Kodet said. “There are a handful of girls who attended an interest meeting, but the next step is to find others who are interested in playing and parents willing to coach the team.”
At the meeting they discussed how to get other girls interested in lacrosse year and what the schedule would be.
Although it would be nice to have a girls lacrosse team some girls aren't that interested in playing lacrosse and the equipment is really expensive.
You need to get at least 20 lacrosse sticks, balls, nets, etc.— and the equipment is at least $500 dollars and $100 just for a lacrosse stick which is very expensive for a school like Bear River that is on a tight budget.
“Another step in making a girls lacrosse team is borrowing or buying affordable equipment such as eye protection, sticks and balls,” Kodet siad. “But used equipment is very easy and affordable to find online.”
Also the girls can have joint practices with the boys and it would push the girls to get better.
According to https://www.statista.com/statistics/26795 about 99,750 girls on average are interested in playing lacrosse in high school, so there could be a good chance that incoming freshman might be interested. But also according to Google about 40 percent drop out.
So we should have a girls lacrosse team because girls should be given a chance to try out for a new sport they’ve never played before to see if they will do it all season.
