What’s Bruin? is a podcast made by Bear River students for Bear River students. Everybody from the sound technicians to the hosts to the publishers are students. Unfortunately, the podcast lost a large portion of its contributors this year due to some graduating and others just not having the time, making the podcast come to a stop.
As stated by Mike DeCicco, the journalism teacher and main organizer of the podcast, its purpose is “to make this community that we have a little bit smaller by making everybody feel a little bit closer”.
In order to keep the podcast a part of Bear River it needs new members.
“We need people who are enthusiastic, who have a fun personality and have something to say,” DeCicco said.
They also “don't have to be in any of [his] classes in order to be part of the podcast”.
All one has to do to join is to talk to DeCicco. Meetings usually take place during lunch or flex, and you can choose a role that fits your schedule. Sound engineers run the sound boards and microphones and have to be present for all segmentsk. Hosts run their own segments about things they're interested in, and publishers publish the podcast on Spotify, Apple Music and the BR Current Website.
The plan for next year is to revitalize the podcast with new members.
“(We want to) make sure [the] journalism kids are more involved,” DeCicco said. “And give more people a chance to be heard [and] to tell stories that people may miss.”
The podcast will be open to everybody with a wide range of openings for different time commitments. Talk to DeCicco if you are interested.
