Bear River High School will be replacing traditional progress report cards with “vibe checks”, instituted by Principal Christopher Roberts. Instead of normal and overused grades like A, B or C, students are now receiving evaluations such as “Immaculate Vibes”, “Needs a Little Work,” or “Majorly Off.” This is a new and modern approach to our students’ future success.
This new system is meant to focus less on academics and more on energy, style and overall presence,
“Grades are so last century,” said Roberts. “What really matters is whether students are bringing the right energy to campus.”
So you might be wondering … how do Vibe Checks work?
Teachers are going to be reportedly evaluating students based on things like confidence, hallway walk and overall aesthetic. School supplies are also being replaced for the importance of keeping the vibes lit, clipboards are being replaced with sunglasses and a quick head-nod of approval.
For the administration’s vision, Roberts had to explain his reasoning behind this sudden change for the Bear River campus.
“I just want the kids to look rad and match the school’s chic style.” He added, “If the vibe is right, the learning will follow … probably.”
Some students are thrilled about this new implementation.
Junior Payton Garten commented, “I may not understand algebra, but my outfit game is strong, so I think I’ll be fine.”
Teachers are now adjusting and undergoing professional development training on how to properly identify the up-to-protocol vibes.
English teacher Donald Negus said, “I spent four years studying my subject, and now I’m grading someone’s ‘aura.’ This is not what my degree prepared me for.”
When looking ahead, if successful the administrators say the program can expand to include “midterm mood evaluations” and “final exam energy assessments.”
As Roberts summarized: “At Bear River, we don’t just measure achievement, we measure the vibe.”
