Have you ever wondered why some students use AI to do their school work? AI is generated by a computer that develops a system capable of performing tasks requiring human knowledge and it’s really easy to use instead of learning from teachers.
I feel that we should use AI to do our assignments because AI gives you the answer to a question and it fully explains more about the question and it also notes on some part to get you to think of another situation your question can verify. AI can also help you to better understand your thinking of your question and help you overcome writer's block and aid in the initial stage of creativity.
On the other hand, students use AI just to get the answer and not check their work for the most part. The biggest concern of using AI is using it to cheat on homework assignments.
It isn't the problem it’s the matter of you copying the steps down AI provides, but students sometimes don’t care about the steps — they care about the answer and that can be a bad thing.
That’s why we should use AI, because students want to brainstorm the idea of fully understanding their question that they put into the chat box to help them understand the idea of the question.
“I noticed students were starting to use AI a month ago. The reality of using AI isn’t the problem, it's the matter of you copying down the information,” said Mr. Baker .
But copying things isn’t really necessary for the students' education because when they become adults they will rely on AI to do the work for them and not get their knowledge in their career. So we should not use AI to do our work because the future depends on our education to be successful and earn money to pay for our necessities.
“The limited amount of opportunities that they have to use by secured browser class is wise to reduce the amount of time, but I can’t prevent them from doing that outside of the school day or outside of my class,” said Baker.
Some students think that AI is a good source of information, but I feel that they are wrong. The best source of their information is getting help from the teacher and making some notes about the subject so you can prepare for a test.
Here at Bear River many teenagers are committed to using AI more than getting help from teachers, which is a bad thing. What is the reason we have teachers anyway? AI is exactly like a teacher that can provide us with good answers to our questions.
“I think it’s all about educating the students, and there’s some teachers that are feeling that everything should just be back to pencil and paper,” said Baker. We should consider going back to pencil and paper because the internet is really bad even if the wifi goes down so we can’t look up AI to find our answers.
We should all rely on our knowledge more than an AI website just to copy down the information.
On the other hand, next year we are going to purchase a program called EDIA that has a bit of AI built in.
But the thing is, it’s that it’s not gonna give them all this information right from the start. EDIA checks the students step on a problem they have trouble with and it help them guide to where they were wrong with their work
“EDIA is an online program that looks at the curriculum by itself , but it has all the state standards in mathematics and it has problems that relate to those standards,” said Bear River Math Teacher. EDIA also has problems that relate to those standards and students can be assigned them from teachers. So the students can work through the assignment if they get the answer wrong EDIA highlights where their mistake is and the student can process that mistake.
According to Rand.org about 62 percent of students in high school use AI, which is not bad but still an average amount of students using a computer to do their assignments. So we should let students use AI because it’s a useful tool to use so students can check their work, learn from mistakes, and brainstorm some ideas of writing the correct answer in their own words.
