Of all the remarkable people at Bear River High School, plenty stand out.
Here’s one name that hopefully by the end many will see this student and realize the potential of a wonderful friend.
Haley Huenegardt, a musician, a determined student, an athlete, and lawmaker in the making. Huenegardt is a member of the Youth and Government program outside the school, writing bills that have the ability to have real effects on the California government.
She is an avid singer and musician, playing the violin, viola, and the cello. She spends her time after school playing water polo, golf or basketball depending on the time of year and her own inclination.
In the Youth and Government program, Haley and other students work on making and debating legislation with the intent of fixing issues with the California government from a student perspective.
“It’s really fun. I really like meeting people from other delegations across California and there’s some social events,” Huenegardt said. “The bill that I’m currently writing is teachers being able to punish students with physical discipline because there’s still some scenarios where it’s legal,”
Mary Jane Huenergardt, a volunteer manager in the program and Huenergardt’s mother said, “Haley will be getting together with other students in the Constitutional Convention and they’re going to learn all about how the state constitution of California is put together, how it’s written, and what’s in it,”
Though Huenergardt has a twin, her and her sister, Loula Huenergardt, have substantially differing personalities that compliment each other very well. Haley Huenergardt has a very outgoing and bubbly personality while her sister Loula tends to be more reserved.
“She has some really good ideas she likes to share and it’s been cool to watch her tear into other people’s bills,” Loula said.
Aside from Youth and Government, Haley Huenergardt is an avid athlete playing multiple sports such as golf, water polo and volleyball. Haley played golf in freshman year.
“I’m a lot better at golf than when I started, but it wasn’t my sport that I really clicked with,” Huenegardt said.
This year, Huenegardt has enjoyed water polo in the place of golf.
“With water polo it’s really fun, and I really like going to practices and games and playing with the team. I really like it a lot more than any other sport.”
Her love for the sport continued even after a car accident broke her collarbone and put her on the sidelines.
Huenegardt has taken multiple upper placement classes including Spanish 3, Honors English and AP World History.
She has grown rather fond of art as well, saying “I really like art. I didn’t even sign up for it as a back up but I liked it a lot more than I thought I would at the beginning of the year.”
With determination and personality she has built up a reputation among her peers as a wonderful friend, sibling, athlete, and student. All around, Haley is a remarkable person with a track record to match.
