The Digital Media Arts classes had quite a surprise on Monday morning when they saw Jeremiah Fisher’s face enlarged and projected on the screen.
To the surprise of everyone, Mike DeCicco spent half the class ranting about his newest obsession, The Summer I Turned Pretty.
“When I walked into class and saw a picture of Jeremiah, I felt pure hatred and violence,” said Molly Rodgers, a yearbook student.
Even though DeCicco is a teacher, he still finds a way to fit The Summer I Turned Pretty into his day.
“It's honestly a constant loop when I have my prep or my lunch, it's on,” DeCicco said. “At this time, I think I'm probably on season two right now for the fourth time, just making my way through it. Every time you learn something different — that's the gift that keeps on giving. It’s what makes it so good.”
This obsession is starting to take over the grade book.
“I think some kids don't understand how serious this is,” DeCicco said. “And so they take it as a joke. And, you know, if you're gonna come in and treat my class as a joke, I'm gonna treat you as a joke. So if they take it seriously, they'll understand that team Jeremiah is the only team to be on. So those kids have no problem getting an A in my class.”
When asked on a scale of 1-10 how beautiful Jeremiah’s eyes were, DeCicco responded with, “Jeremiah’s eyes are a 12 because 10 is for beautiful eyes, but these eyes are perfect. Like, these are the eyes that you want to spend the whole afternoon lost in, and I have on more than one occasion
“I watched the entire first season, and I had no idea what happened because all I could do was just stare at his eyes. So I actually had to go back and rewatch the series so I knew what happened.”
When asked another question, DeCicco zoned out and seemingly started hallucinating about Jeremiah.
“The eyes, Oh, the eyes. I once drove all the way to Sacramento and didn’t even remember anything about the trip, because all I was doing was thinking about his eyes.,” DeCicco admitted. “I have no memory of driving down the highway. Yeah, it was weird … It's just kind of like kind of lost, and I realized I don't even remember getting off the exit, getting here. I made it there okay because I feel like Jeremiah was with me. And so I was safe.”
It’s worth noting that during his “encounter” with Jeremiah, DeCicco’s eyes turned the same shade of blue as Jeremiah’s. He was advised to seek a medical professional.
