Due to the recent snow days, Bear River has made the difficult decision to push back this year’s prom, to Monday, May 4th.
“Monday will be a minimum day, so students will get out early to get ready,” Principal Christopher Roberts shared. “We have exciting things planned for this prom … including a lightsaber battle!” Roberts shared that this year’s prom will be Star Wars themed. Despite an unsuccessful attempt to have a Star Wars inspired homecoming three years ago, the theme has been met by extreme enthusiasm this year, especially from the girls.
One upperclassman, who chose to remain anonymous, told the The CornNut he was dressing as Yoda for the occasion.
“I’m thanking the stars that we got this theme!” he shared. “My date isn’t happy that I’m dressing up as Yoda, but my love for Star Wars is infinite.”
His date, sophomore Elizabeth Sturgill-Odong, declined to comment. Senior Maddie Murphy shared her excitement.
“I already bought my lightsaber! I’m not letting any nerf herder beat me,” Murphy said.
A Bear River junior remembers seeing the prom theme announcement on Instagram. “My heart just dropped. I thought it was a joke, or maybe an April Fool’s prank.”
Other students, however, are not exactly thrilled.
“I just wanted a normal prom,” junior Jackson Telliano admitted. “Not whatever this is.”
Despite the mixed reactions, ASB insists the night will be unforgettable.
They already have started spreading the word about themed photo booths and “duels” on the dance floor. ASB posted the promotional video which can be viewed here, or on the BRCurrent Instagram page. The video has gotten ASB many compliments and positive reactions from students.
“I’ve already gotten duels lined up,” shared Sturgill-Odong. “My lightsaber has been collecting dust in my room; I’m glad I can put it to good use again!”
Principal Roberts ended the announcement with confidence.
“At the end of the day, prom is about making memories,” he said. “And I can guarantee no one at Bear River will forget this one.”
